Mark first got involved with the charity in 2016 after his mother was diagnosed with cancer. He wanted to support the local services that were treating his mum.
So in February 2016, he held the first ‘Chords Crush Cancer’ – a music event that would become an annual fundraiser. Mark was inspired to organise such an event as his close friend is a musician in Dublin; he flies over every year to perform! The evening sees musicians from around Shropshire come together for night of good music and good company, all for a good cause.
It was such a success that Chords Crush Cancer 2 followed and whilst planning Chords Crush Cancer 3 sadly, Mark’s mother passed away.
The recent, third, was a huge success! All three events have featured his best friends, Davy Lewis a singer/songwriter who performs in Temple Bar Dublin and Bridgnorth based Cooper & Davies.
This February, at Chords Crush Cancer 3, they were joined by Shrewsbury based musician Andy Mills and Clive a caricaturist who added a different element to the evening. He also produced a selfie frame so his guests could get involved on facebook and Instagram! The event continues to be a success and his fundraising efforts are larger every time…growing from £1107 in 2016 to £1875 this year!
They hold a raffle and auction which have had some large bids, the biggest being over £200 for a signed Manchester United football!
To date, Mark has raised £3380.37 for Lingen Davies Cancer Fund!
Chords Crush Cancer 4 will be held in February 2019 with Davy Lewis and a new headline act already signed up to play.
Organising your own fundraising event, in aid of Lingen Davies, is a wonderful way to support the charity and contribute to funding our work.
