Like many people, fundraising was not a career I had considered. I was certain I was going to be a teacher from a very young age but this path did not go to plan for me, and I soon realised that it was not the job for me!
When I finished university I became Duty Manager of Shrewsbury Castle as a stop gap whilst I worked out what it was I wanted to do. It was during this time that I started to gain an interest in event organising as I was in charge of the weddings there.
The position of Fundraising Officer came up for Lingen Davies and I applied, hoping to increase my experience of events, so that I would be able to pursue this as a career. Little did I realise that the world of fundraising was not all about events! Despite that, the charity got under my skin and I loved everything I did, meeting new people, developing relationships with supporters and making a real difference to cancer patients locally. I have been with the charity for 15 years and in 2012 I was promoted to the role of Fundraising Manager.
It seems to be true what people say, you never really choose to go in to fundraising, it seems to choose you!
