LiveLife Cancer Awareness team boost

Thanks to the rapid growth of our LiveLife cancer awareness and cancer prevention work we have gone from being a team of one part-time officer, to three dedicated health professionals.

Miranda Ashwell, who has driven the project since its launch last year, is now leading on all work related to our LiveLife service. Not only do we have cancer awareness stalls and offer free-to-access information and presentations to all, but we are also working alongside NHS Shropshire Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care Board to raise awareness about cancer across Shropshire.

Claire Purcell has joined the team as our new Health Engagement Officer and has a wealth of experience working in the health profession as she used to be a nurse. Her career has also seen her move into the charity sector so combining her skills from both will be a real asset to Lingen Davies.

Michelle Moore is a health engagement officer working for Telford & Wrekin Council, and she will be working alongside Miranda as one of the region’s new Cancer Champion Coordinators.

The Cancer Champions work is being delivered in partnership with Oswestry-based Qube and will see the team working to recruit volunteers to act as champions in their area and within their communities to help encourage others to take up cancer screening invitations.

The project is part of a national scheme being rolled out by NHS England to work in the 20% most deprived areas of the population, addressing five key themes.

NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin has chosen to focus on cancer prevention – one of our key themes.
