A Shropshire man is running 26.2 miles for the first time in 20 years to raise money for Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.
Adam Fox from Shrewsbury will tackle the London Marathon in April – having last completed the feat in 2004 and 2005. He signed up to the challenge through Lingen Davies, prompted to raise money for the charity after his girlfriend’s husband and a work colleague both died from cancer.
The 45-year-old said: “When I last ran the London Marathon I was really into my running, but I lost the love for it before getting back into it – I had this mad idea to do it again and wasn’t successful in the ballot so contacted Lingen Davies to see if they had any spaces.
“I am hoping to raise £3,000 for the charity as they did a lot for people I know who have been affected by cancer and they do fantastic work across Shropshire, Telford and beyond.
“I am very excited but not looking forward to running the marathon again – my training is going well, I am doing 40 or 50 miles a week now, and luckily my bad back hasn’t played up again.
“I am very conscious that I am 20 years older than when I last completed the race and last time I did it, I was as good as crying for the last half a mile. It is so emotional when you’re there.”
Adam’s girlfriend lost her husband to cancer in 2019 and Lingen Davies also helped Adam’s work colleague Mark in 2019, before he lost his brave battle in early 2020.
‘Mark Fights Cancer’ was set up in Mark’s honour and has so far raised nearly £50,000 for Lingen Davies, Severn Hospice and The Kidney Patients Association since he died.
Adam knew this was the charity to contact and support when he decided to tie up the laces to his trainers again. To sponsor Adam visit: https://www.justgiving.com/page/adam-fox-1698332595697
