A fitness fanatic will take on the London marathon next month raising money for us because he wants to give back to the community.
Simon MacDonald, who runs Ultimate Fitness Events and organises the successful Shrewsbury 10K, is hoping to complete the marathon in around three and a half hours – while raising around £5,000. It will be his sixth marathon – having completed them in Snowdon, Liverpool and London since 2007, with the most recent being in Manchester last year with no training at all.
Simon said: “I’m looking forward to it, it should be a good challenge and I just want to give back to the local community.
“I have always been a runner, even when I was much younger, and I run 35 fitness classes a week at The Shrewsbury Club for work, so I should be ok – but I’m 43 now, I’m more sleep deprived since I’ve had more kids and I’ve had a few niggles, so I’m doing what I can to prepare.”
Simon was due to run a marathon with a friend who had terminal cancer in 2018 but his friend sadly passed away weeks before the run and Simon completed it alone. He is well aware of the work undertaken by Lingen Davies and has previously donated 10 places in the Shrewsbury 10K to the charity, hoping to help fundraising efforts.
His own money raising this year had a huge boost when Tuffins Montgomery Waters donated £2,000 and he’s hoping to more than double that through other generous donations.
