Golf day in memory of young bowel cancer patient

A charity golf day held in memory of a young bowel cancer patient has raised a fantastic £4,063.

Chris Embrey is married to Rachel Embrey, a Cancer Nurse at the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre at RSH, and along with his family organised the charity golf day in memory of his brother in May on the anniversary of Steven’s death.

Steven was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer aged just 35.  He received his treatment at the Cancer Centre and was very appreciative for the support and care he received from all within the department. Sadly 16 months after diagnosis passed away.

He leaves his Mum and Dad – Carol and Alan and two brothers Chris and Nick.

Steven his brothers and father enjoyed many occasions playing golf together which lead Chris to organise the fundraiser on the first anniversary of Steven’s passing.

Chris thought that he would raise about £1,000 but was thrilled with the final total of £4,063.10. The family would like to thank all who participated in the charity day along with everyone who generously contributed to the event with raffle prizes and donations.

Angela Hill, from Lingen Davies, said: “We are so grateful to the Embrey family for their efforts in putting on such a brilliant event and raising this total for us, which will go towards improving the lives of people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales with cancer. It was also a wonderful tribute to their much-loved son and brother to mark the anniversary of his passing. We are grateful to the Embrey family.”
